Below Your Belt

Challenge

There’s a space between general health ed and sex ed where an opportunity exists to teach girls about pelvic health. Tens of millions of grown up girls are affected by issues “below the belt.” Things like bladder leaks, constipation, and painful or excessive periods can hamper self-confidence, diminish quality of life, and impact present and future health.

Research

At a young age, many girls already experience preventable issues which can follow them into adulthood. Getting beyond stigma early on and teaching girls about that special place below the belt – before harmful habits become ingrained – can change the current women’s health paradigm and create a positive experience for grown-up girls of the future.

Mission

Every girl deserves to know her body. Below Your Belt L3C is here to provide evidence-based and award-winning content to girls from 3 to 23 with books, free downloads, and an exciting new digital platform under development, to introduce pelvic health to girls and their grown-ups for a lifetime of great pelvic health and wellness. This is our mission!

What People Are Saying About Below Your Belt

“I think it’s really helpful because a lot of girls don’t know what’s going on about their body. It’s nice to be ‘in the know’.”

Fallon, Age 14

“BYB helped me because it showed me that my body changing isn’t that scary.”

Lauren, Age 12

read Below Your Belt with my 10 year old daughter. She especially enjoyed the history tidbits and the anatomic illustrations of the pelvic floor. I think it definitely adds another valuable and unique piece to ‘body positive’ resources for girls.

Melisa Holmes, MD, FACOG Co-Founder, Vision Keeper, Girlology & Guyology

I think Below Your Belt is phenomenal! I love how it has such a focus on confidence-building and empowerment. The sections about reproductive health, specifically menstruation, are introduced in a way that is really separate from either sexual intimacy or motherhood. It retains an emphasis on young women’s own identity development rather than the typical emphasis of women’s bodies as relative only to intimate partners and/or babies/children. I also love how BYB is focused on young women learning to take care of their own bodies for themselves.”

Joann V. Pinkerton, MD Professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Director Midlife Health University of Virginia Health Center

I just wanted to touch base and let you know that I finished Below Your Belt and absolutely loved reading it. The chapters flow so smoothly and the information is presented in such an easily understood manner. I especially like the pages on the Princess of OvulationCharming and cute while imparting really important information.”

Kathy Pickus Owner, Founder Dot Girl First Period Kit

I have read through BYB, and I think it’s phenomenal! I love how it has such a focus on confidence-building and empowerment. I really like how in this context menstruation is introduced in a way that is really separate from either sex or babies…I love how this is all focused on young women learning to take care of their own bodies for themselves.”

Elizabeth Jarpe-Ratner

The work you did is fabulous!! I am so impressed. The children’s information is wonderful. The stats related to the lack of correct body, menstrual, and pelvic information is overwhelming. I guess I knew it, having worked in a university hospital.  But the information you offer is awesome. I think your work is long overdue.”

Francie Bernier, Ph.D., RN Assistant Professor Eleanor Wade Custer School of Nursing Shenandoah University

“An amazing new book is here. It challenges one of the most controversial parts of our public, private and homeschool curriculum. It goes up against traditions of silence and misinformation. And I love it. Missy and Jeni have produced a lovely, age appropriate book for young girls. Below Your Belt: How to be Queen of Your Pelvic Region meets the mark of providing accurate information about the most basic and glorious parts of being a girl. This book is written to dispel myths, quiet fears and generate conversations, and it is a success!”

Below Your Belt is a great book and should be in the hands of every girl on planet Earth! Bravo, Bravo, Bravo!!”
